Camp & Jobs

Well, Camp with my Explorers wasn't too bad, it rained for most of the day on Saturday, but was reasonably dry on SUnday, and we didn't have to hang the tents out to dry when we got back. The only tent that wasn't fully dry was mine, as it's got a integral ground-sheet and I didn't have time to leave it upside-down before I shoved it into the bag to come home :-(

I've now moved jobs from Student records, to another office in a different part of the Sheffield College, I'm now in an administrative position, that is slightly less monotonous ;-)

Friday, October 22, 2004

I've been meaning to say for the last couple of days that both my CV (HTML format - PDF format available from the home page)and MSc Thesis (PDF format) are available from my personal website for those of you that are interested.

That job didn't come off, but I've had a call from Office Angels to say that another part of the Sheffield College, in the city want me for a week next week, with possible extension week-by-week. It's an admin position, but with a pay increase of 30p/hr from what I'm on at the moment.

(Change Tack)
I'm off to camp with my Explorers this weekend, but by the look of the weather forecast this morning, we're in for a wet weekend :-( Never mind, it's the first time I've been to camp with them, so it'll be an experience anyway!

Penultimate day in student records

I'm just coming to the end of my penultimate day inputting student registration data. At the time of writing, I don't know what I'm going to do fro Monday. The main agency I've been with doesn't have anything at the moment, however, one of the others has said it may have something for me labouring/palleting/wrapping/order checking in a company, but he's not got back to me yet. I know he works through to about 5:30 - 6pm, so if I've not heard anything from him by then, I'll call him tomorrow, first thing.

Chips with everything (or not as the case may be!)

(Apologies for the title to those of you who remember that column from Scouting mag)

Last night we had a Chip-Shop survey in our programme for Explorers. Before-hand I dilligently typed out a mark sheet and printed several copies off to take with me (and I actually remembered to pick them up on my way out of the door!). However, I had assumed that the vast majority of chippys would be open on a tuesday evening - it turns out that they aren't. :-(
Of the three I had eye-balled previously, only one was open, so we sampled some chips from a chinese (bleurgh, bleurgh and thrice bleurgh - and they weren't too hot!) and from KFC (not as good as I expected and definitely lacking in the heat dept!) along with two chip-shops. One of these was one I had spotted and knew to be not very good, and the other was one that the explorers knew about themselves. Generally the people we're happy to donate a portion for us to sample, however at the chinese we sampled, we got 6 chips to share around 11 of us and the bloke behind the counter at KFC had to get the manager. Overall, the general consensus is that the chippys (and others) around the Hillsborough football ground are more interested in throughput and quantity of customers than the quality of their produce. It seems to be a rough rule of thumb (for those of a scientific persuasion) that the quality of chips is directly proportional to the distance from the visitors end of the ground!!

C has a review meeting at work tomorrow morning about her phased return to work after her absence. I'm not sure that she's ready to increase her hours yet. She's back at the docs on Thurs and I can't help feeling that these two event would have been better the other way around, but the appointments have been made now.
We'll just have to see how it goes...

Happy Hols

We had a great week away on the boat. It didn't rain too much, but when it did during the day, it didn't really matter as I was at the helm, and had the fire lit in the boatmans cabin, and the doors closed round me, and the sliding bit of the roof closed right up to me, so my legs were toasty warm! C had the fire in the lounge going hell-for-leather all week, but that was mainly due to the fact that the air control is borken, so it always has a plentiful supply of air for the combusion process!

Daisy was a bit nervous at first, particularly of the engine when it was running, but soon settled in. By the end of the week she was jumping off the boat when it was still moveing, but not jumping on. Never mind, anything is good for her first week, particularly as she didn't go swimming!!!

We also found three caches near the canal (see Geocaching.com for details) during the week, although there was one that proved quite difficult to find as we were using only a map and romer scale, rather than a GPS receiver. I think a GPS is going on our Christmas wish-list! I quite like Geocaching as it gives what could just be a random walk in the country (or city) a purpose.

Must go and do some work now - more later possibly.

Off soon

I'll be leaving work soon.

We're off to the boat for the week next week, going on Saturday, via
the SAGGA theme weekend on the saturday during the day, and then on to
the boat Saturday evening (near the Anderton Boat lift,
Middlewitch-ish!)

Not sure at the moment where we'll end up, but will let you know when
we get back, and I get back to a computer.

More Doggie Woes!

Just had a call from C to say that when she got home from work at
lunchtime today, Daisy had left her a 'present' at the top of the
stairs :-( She bought her a couple more toys yesterday, but daisy
seems to be scared of the squeaky ones, and doesn't show much interest
in the one that's got food in the middle.

I hope the Dog is OK on the boat next week

Aarrggh! Our Bl**&y dog has started taking liberties! She's worked out how to get over/under the gate at the bottom of the stairs and decided last night that the sofa was a much better place to sleep than her designated be in the hall-way! She's left a whole host of hairs and doggy slobber all over it :-( Couple this with the fact that her breath smells at the moment, and I'm not a happy chappy with a best friend! C is too besotted to be angry with her.

Also, over the weekend, she left a rather large 'deposit' on the lounge crapet over saturday night for me to find when I came down for breakfast on Sunday.

I'm still temping and am bored brainless during the day. Hey-ho, we're off on the boat for a week from Saturday. We three (Me, C & the Mutt) may see some of you at the SAGGA Theme W/e during Saturday, but won't be staying over night.

It seemed to

But it added the signature at the bottom. Hopefully it won't this time.

Oh what a glorious morning

Oh what a glorious day... Well, it was until it started to cloud over :-( I actually enjoyed my cycle into work this morning :-)

Looking forward to the weekend - we're meeting up with Hugh & Jo and Nicola and Rich (C's friends from NSGSO etc) on Saturday, and it was only organised a few days ago! With all of us, weekends are normally booked up weeks, if not months in advance. We're meeting Hugh & Jo in Youlgreave for an afternoon walk with Daisy our Border Collie*.

* - We've had Daisy for two weeks now and got her from a rescue centre. She's lovely, calm and placid.
